This is because optical coherence tomography scans can detect and record a wide range of abnormalities, giving us the opportunity to begin treatment as soon as possible. Though optical coherence tomography scans are beneficial to everyone – even if nothing is detected, the peace of mind of knowing this is hard to beat – we do recommend that some patients undergo a OCT scan more regularly. This includes those with a family history of glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, vitreous floaters and moderate short sightedness.
